Does your child with ADHD have an IEP? Or maybe a 504 or maybe nothing right now. But do you see struggling and do you receive calls and emails from the school that indicate issues with your child’s access to education?

Data collection is so important to determine the need for change in the IEP.  That collection can come as a result of questions asked by you.  Think of 3-5 questions you can ask the team based on concerns that you hear on a regular basis.  For example, let’s say you are receiving complaints around paying attention and behavior that is unacceptable in the classroom.  Here are five questions that could be asked of the team:

  • Is there a time of day or a particular class during which behaviors are being noted?
  • How many times of the day does this behavior occur?
  • What is done right after a behavior occurs?
  • What is the resulting behavior after the intervention?
  • Are their skills that are lagging that seem to connect to the behavior?
